As summer is fast approaching, just like a lot of black women one thing that’s been on my mind is how I can get and keep that heavily talked about melanin glow all summer.
Having oily skin one thing that is inevitable as the weather gets hotter is the extra release of oils in your skin which is what leaves your face looks incredibly oily, obviously there are ways to shine proof your skin but that’s where I’m faced with another dilemma because as much as I hate having oily skin I also hate when my skin looks dull.
So after trying a few products I’ve found three holy grail products that are definitely going to be staying in my skincare bag all year long and three ways to get that needed melanin glow without necessarily having makeup on.

Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
The face mask I’ve been loving lately is the charcoal face mask from the body shop.
I feel like its better than most charcoal face mask not only because not only does it have other ingredients in it like tea tree oil which Is good for blemishes but I’ve never actually seen my pores look so small ever which is so good because large pores can cause the extra oil on your face.
It takes away all that impurities from your face and pores and leaves you with a nice healthy looking glow.
Glow Tonic Toner
This is something that I hope everyone does after washing their face and before moisturising, but for those of you who don’t understand the importance of a toner, not only can it good for acne, it also gets rid of the excess oils on your face, leftover makeup residue from cleansing and balances the PH levels on your face which naturally occurs after cleansing.
To get that glowing dewy look I use the glow tonic toner from Pixi, its so good because it seems to brighten up not only your face but your complexion, like said earlier after washing your face it can look quite dull at times and using a toner especially this as it has glow properties seems to just give you face that truly needed boost.
Vitamin E Day Lotion SPF30
One thing I never thought of using until a friend of mine mentioned It was using a moisturiser that contains SPF, as the days are getting hotter and sunnier for some, one thing that is completely normal but usual on dark skin is hyperpigmentation.
Around the summertime, one thing that I always get on my face is discolouration- which is basically different colour patches of skin on your face and I always used to put it down to the weather, that is until I realised that I wasn’t protecting my skin from my daily surroundings including the sun.
-Just Like Any Other Skin, Black Skin Needs Protection From The Sun-
The popular belief by so many people is that black people do not need to use sunscreen, or anything else to protect themselves from the sun which is a completely false, using SPF kind of camouflages your skin from the harsh weather and surroundings and protects it from ageing.
My chosen moisturiser is the Vitamin E Day Lotion containing SPF30 from the body shop, I love this moisturiser because despite it having quite a high level of SPF it still feels super light which I like due to having oily skin, the last thing I want is my skin to appear oily and greasy.
