Let’s keep it real, winter blues are the worst. Christmas is over, new years is over and you’re either back to work or waiting to start your semester like i am. The change of routine or lack of routine can have you feeling out of place, well i’ve got three things that can help you on those days where you’re feeling BLEH.
Do what Makes You Feel Good.
This one is a bit of a no brainer, in order to feel good you need to be actively doing things that make you feel good. This can be anything from going to the gym, going to the movies, eating out, hanging out with friends,doing your makeup, dressing up. Personally for me when i look good i feel good, so one of my go to things to do when i feel a bit shit is to do my makeup or do my hair.
Another thing that makes me feel good is hanging out with my friends, which is so difficult when you’re in those moods where you don’t really wanna see anyone and you’re just constantly by yourself. On one of those days where you’re in your feelings and just feel BLEH, ask someone to do something, go out for food and enjoy someone elses company- i promise you you’ll feel better.
Upgrade/Tidy Your Space.
Ever heard of ‘tidy house, tidy mind’? Well i completely agree with it. One thing that can worsen your already low mood is walking into a room that’s been left untidy, no one feels 100% comfortable in a messy room and I believe that your space should bring you nothing but comfort.
This is one of the first things I do when I’m in one of those moods and i can say that it can instantly cheer you up because who doesn’t love a clean house?, it takes away that extra anxiety and stress that comes with knowing that you have something to do that you haven’t yet gotten around to doing.
One more thing that can help banish those winter blues is also upgrading your space, you can try rearranging your room such into something different, decluttering your space the Marie Kondo way, maybe adding things to your home that cheers you up for me i did that my adding more plants to my collection.
As easy as it is to want to hibernate especially when it’s rainy and cold outside and you lack all motivation and energy- sometimes the last thing you want to do is leave the warmth of your home to go out into the cold, all in the name of exercise.
Honestly speaking, as someone who has been hit hard with the winter blues this year, exercising is the best medication for those days where you’re feeling sluggish, in a low mood and overall just sh*t. Whether it’s an hour at the gym, doing your favourite sport or a 20 mins walk to the shop and back, that time spent will set the tone on how you feel for the rest of the day.
